Jeyland Mitchell Leaves Feyenoord to Join Sturm Graz on Loan

Costa Rican defender Jeyland Mitchell has left Feyenoord to join Sturm Graz on a loan deal. The 20-year-old was desperate to get more minutes on the pitch after losing his place in the Dutch side and can now set his sights on playing his way back into form with the Austrian Bundesliga hopefuls.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Mitchell has joined Sturm Graz on loan for the rest of the season, with the club having the option to make the move permanent.

He is Feyenoord‘s highest-profile exit of the summer following a host of big-name signings, and could get his first taste of action for his new team against BW Linz on Tuesday.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The centre-back joined Feyenoord from Deportivo Saprissa in 2025 and has already made 47 appearances for the Dutch club. Last season, Feyenoord finished third in the Eredivisie and will compete in the Champions League again this season, highlighting the competitive environment Mitchell intends to return to.

He now links up with a Sturm Graz side eager to qualify for the Champions League again after missing out last season, having previously finished second in the top flight in five consecutive campaigns.

WHAT NEXT FOR FEYENOORD?

The club are back in league action against Utrecht on Saturday as they aim to continue their pursuit of a third straight Eredivisie title. As they prepare for this crucial match, Feyenoord has also completed several significant signings, including young Italian player Matteo Malasomma from Napoli and Gonçalo Borges from FC Porto.
