Joao Felix set to return to Chelsea
Chelsea will have to attempt to sell Joao Felix permanently again this summer, with the forward set to return from AC Milan.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Felix joined Milan on loan from Chelsea in January after the Blues failed to find a buyer for the forward. The 25-year-old initially made an impressive debut, scoring against Roma in the Coppa Italia. However, his form gradually declined, failing to register a goal or assist in the six matches that followed. Milan have now decided against pursuing negotiations with Chelsea for a permanent transfer, making Felix’s return to the Blues extremely likely.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Chelsea’s attempts to offload Felix have been unsuccessful so far. The club paid €52 million to sign him from Atletico Madrid last summer, giving him a six-year contract expiring in 2030. The Blues are reportedly looking to avoid making a loss on the player, with a figure of around €41.6 million needed to prevent a capital loss by June 2025. However, Felix’s disappointing performances at Milan have made it difficult for Chelsea to recoup their investment.
WHAT NEXT?
Reports suggest that Felix’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has initiated talks with Galatasaray to gauge their interest in signing the player. The Turkish club is set to reshape their attack in the summer, with several high-profile forwards potentially leaving. Galatasaray would prefer a loan deal with an option to buy, but Chelsea are pushing for either a permanent transfer or a loan with an obligation to buy. Felix’s future remains uncertain, with his high salary potentially complicating any potential move.
