João Gomes commits to Wolves with new deal

WHAT HAPPENED?

The 24-year-old has signed a new five-year contract at Molineux, which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2030, with an option to extend the deal by an additional year. The contract does not include a release clause, ensuring Wolves retain full control over the Brazilian midfielder’s future.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

João Gomes is the latest player to commit his future to Wolverhampton Wanderers amidst the club’s efforts to secure key players. In recent months, other stars such as Matheus Cunha and Yerson Mosquera have also signed long-term contracts. Gomes, who joined Wolves in January 2023 from Flamengo, has made over 80 appearances and cemented his role as a pivotal player in the squad.

WHAT JOÃO GOMES SAID

“I am more than happy, I am very happy to stay here,” said Gomes. “I arrived at an incredible club and had an incredible start to my career here. My first goal was very emotional, and I am very pleased with the things I’ve been achieving here with the team.”

WHAT NEXT?

Wolves has beaten West Ham and currently sits in 17th place, one place above relegation, with 12 points advantage to Ipswich.

Vítor Pereira’s side is set to face Ipswich, who are currently 18th in the Premier League.

João Gomes has proven instrumental for the team from the Midlands, with 28 matches played this season and 3 goals scored. This cements the bet that Wolves has placed on the Brazilian when they bought him from Flamengo.
