Jorginho Leaves Arsenal to Join Flamengo on Three-Year Deal

Jorginho has officially left Arsenal to join Flamengo on a free transfer. The Italian midfielder signed a three-year contract. He will be part of Flamengo’s team for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. This move ends his time in the Premier League and begins a new chapter in Brazil.

WHY JORGINHO LEFT ARSENAL

Jorginho’s contract with Arsenal was set to end this summer. Both he and the club agreed to let him leave early. This allowed him to join Flamengo for the Club World Cup starting in June. The 33-year-old saw limited playing time in London this season, so Arsenal let him go to save money and support him. Playing for Flamengo brings Jorginho back to Brazil for the first time since he moved to Italy at 15 years old.

IMPACT AT ARSENAL AND FLAMENGO’S PLANS

Jorginho played 34 games for Arsenal last season, bringing experience to the midfield but only scoring once. Arsenal finished second in the Premier League, just behind Manchester City. Flamengo hopes Jorginho will boost their midfield along with seasoned players like Danilo and Alex Sandro. Flamengo is competing at the top of the Brazilian league and wants to succeed in the Club World Cup. They will face Chelsea and Esper de Tunis there.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR JORGINHO AND FLAMENGO

Now that the transfer is done, Jorginho can play for Flamengo when the Club World Cup starts on June 17. Flamengo will look to use his international experience, which includes a Champions League win with Chelsea and being key in Italy’s EURO 2020 win. Flamengo’s next match is in the Brazilian league, where they are chasing leaders Palmeiras. Meanwhile, Arsenal will look for a new midfielder to help them challenge for trophies next season.
