Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is joining Flamengo on a free transfer. When his contract ends in June, he will move to the Brazilian club on a three-year deal. The Italian international will now be in Rio de Janeiro until 2028.

WHAT HAPPENED?

After months of speculation, Jorginho decided to join Flamengo. He verbally agreed to a three-year deal with them. His contract with Arsenal is expiring, and he will leave the Premier League soon. Despite reported offers from European and Saudi sides, he chose Flamengo. He will sign the contract and be at Flamengo in time for the FIFA Club World Cup this summer.

JORGINHO’S SEASON AT ARSENAL

In his final season at Arsenal, Jorginho was key for the Gunners. He played in more than 30 matches across competitions and produced clutch performances. He was usually a favorite for the starting XI, but a glaring error against Crystal Palace and regular rotation cost him the spot in the final stretch of the campaign. Arsenal trail Manchester City by two points at the top of the Premier League with three games to go. Liverpool are a point behind the Gunners in third place. Their next league match is against Everton on Friday before they host Inter in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final tie in three days’ time.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR FLAMENGO AND JORGINHO?

Flamengo will welcome a big name from European football in the form of Jorginho. He is coming to compete in the FIFA Club World Cup against the likes of Arsenal. Igor Lesta’s side are now focusing on reclaiming the Brazilian Serie A title back from Santos and are second in the table, five points behind the leaders. Atletico Mineiro follow them in the third spot with the same points but a game in hand.
