Arsenal’s Jorginho is leaving the club at the end of the season. Flamengo, a Brazilian team, has made an official offer and he is likely to join them soon as he continues to have limited playing time in the Gunners.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Jorginho’s contract with Arsenal ends in June 2025, and he is not expected to stay. Flamengo has made a formal proposal to the Italian player, who has turned down interest from European and Saudi Arabian clubs. Negotiations are going well, with only a few minor details to resolve before the transfer is complete.

Jorginho, 33, could sign with Flamengo until December 2027, marking his first time playing professionally in Brazil, his birth country. The midfielder has expressed excitement about finally playing in Brazil after spending most of his career in Europe, with top clubs like Chelsea, Napoli, and Arsenal.

ARSENAL’S SEASON AND JORGINHO’S ROLE

Jorginho has had limited playing time this season, with just 12 appearances in the Premier League, mostly as a substitute. Arsenal are in a tight race for the Premier League title, trying to stay ahead of Manchester City and chasing Liverpool with only a few matches left. Their next game against Crystal Palace is essential as they try to keep the title race alive and close the 13 points gap to Liverpool. Jorginho’s departure comes amid expected changes in Arsenal’s midfield, with the addition of Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi this summer as his replacement.

WHAT NEXT FOR JORGINHO AND FLAMENGO?

Jorginho is reportedly in Rio de Janeiro to facilitate negotiations with Flamengo. Both parties aim to finalize the contract before the Club World Cup, where Flamengo will compete against Chelsea, Esperance, and Club León in the group stage. This high-profile move will bring Jorginho’s great European experience to a Flamengo side eager to shine on the world stage. As his Arsenal career draws to a close, Jorginho is set for a new chapter in Brazilian football later this summer.
