Jules Koundé Agrees Long-Term Contract Extension with Barcelona Until 2030

Barcelona and defender Jules Koundé have agreed on a new contract. Koundé will stay with the club until June 2030. This ends transfer rumors and shows the club wants to keep its defense strong.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Koundé is from France. He joined Barcelona in 2022 from Sevilla. His current deal was until 2027. Now, he’s adding three more years. Both the club and his team have agreed to this. They’re expected to sign the final papers soon. The new contract gives Koundé a pay raise. There’s also a release clause, making him an even more important team member. The club will likely announce this deal after their pre-season tour in South Korea. Manchester City and other clubs were interested in him. But Koundé chose to stay. He believes in the team’s future.

KOUNDÉ’S KEY ROLE THIS SEASON

Koundé has played in every game this 2024/25 campaign. He was in 53 matches, including all competitions. He scored four goals and provided eight assists. People often praise his versatility. He can play in various positions—right-back and center-back. Barcelona won the title in La Liga, and Koundé’s performances stood out. He’s considered untouchable and vital to Barcelona’s defensive stability and a regular in coach Hansi Flick’s starting team. His defense and attacking runs are important in tight matches.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

With this deal, Barcelona has one of their top defenders for the new season. Their next game opens La Liga against Mallorca, who finished mid-table last season. Barcelona will want to keep the distance to Atletico and last year runner-ups Real Madrid, and the fact that the team did not pursue Dumfries from Inter Milan, and chose instead to renew with Kounde, means they have a lot of trust in the player. Koundé is expected to play a big role. This contract signals to other clubs that Barcelona is keeping its group together. They want success in both La Liga and the Champions League.
