Juventus Director Giuntoli Praises Tudor, But His Future Is Unclear

Juventus director Cristiano Giuntoli praised interim coach Igor Tudor. But he didn’t confirm Tudor’s role beyond the FIFA Club World Cup.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Giuntoli spoke on May 19 about Tudor, who replaced Thiago Motta in March after a bad start. Giuntoli praised Tudor, saying, “Igor Tudor has had a great impact. He’s doing very well.” He confirmed Tudor would lead through the FIFA Club World Cup, adding, “Tudor will stay with us for FIFA Club World Cup, and then we will see.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Tudor impressed since taking over, lifting Juventus back into the top four with a strong chance for Champions League. He joined on a short-term deal in March, with reports suggesting automatic extension if they secure Champions League spot. Juventus can terminate his deal before July 30 regardless of the results.

The Old Lady improved under Tudor, earning seven points in his first three matches, beating Cagliari, Lecce, and drawing with Roma. The turnaround impressed Turin’s hierarchy, and some reports indicated the club wanted to extend his contract.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR JUVENTUS?

Juventus will be in the FIFA Club World Cup, scheduled from June to July, with Tudor leading them in this tournament. The club needs to decide his future after that. A one-year extension was reportedly possible earlier in April, but Giuntoli’s recent comments imply the situation remains unclear.

Bianconeri are currently in the Champions League spot, which would trigger the automatic extension clause if maintained. Securing that position will be important for Tudor’s long-term future at the club. The club directors must weigh his success against their long-term plans for the club.
