Juventus Target Zhegrova as Talks Advance with Lille and Marseille
Juventus are making progress in their bid to sign Edon Zhegrova from Lille amid interest from Marseille. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid are set to step up their efforts to sign Juventus midfielder Nico Gonzalez, with the Blaugrana ready to agree to personal terms with the Spanish club.
JUVENTUS AND LILLE DISCUSS ZHEGROVA DEAL
We reported last week that Juventus had reignited their interest in signing Lille winger Zhegrova following Marseille’s official approach earlier this month. It was described as a complicated deal at the time, but Juventus are now thought to be in regular contact with the player and are advancing towards an agreement with Lille over a transfer. Juventus have held fresh talks to sign Edon Zhegrova from Lille, indicating a strong commitment to finalize this deal.
Discussions are said to be ongoing between Juventus and Lille over Zhegrova’s future, but it seems all parties are edging closer towards an agreement. Meanwhile, the player is said to be committed to joining the Serie A club, with the likes of Barcelona, AC Milan, and Chelsea also expressing interest in his services recently. Juventus will not want to get complacent in their attempts to sign Zhegrova, however, with several high-profile clubs reportedly keen to snap him up.
WHAT IT MEANS FOR JUVENTUS
Zhegrova, 26, has long been viewed as one of the most exciting wingers in European football, establishing himself as Lille’s talisman in recent seasons and playing a key role as they challenged the likes of PSG and Lyon at the top of the Ligue 1 table. The Kosovo international, who has scored eight goals and recorded two assists in 21 Ligue 1 matches this season, joined from Basel in 2021 and has made 168 appearances for the club, scoring 61 goals and providing 35 assists. He also helped Lille win the Ligue 1 title last season.
It was claimed in January that Zhegrova had agreed to a new three-year contract at Lille after extensive talks, although that agreement is now in doubt, and the player could be set to move on from the Ligue 1 outfit if Juventus gets their way. Barcelona and Chelsea have previously expressed an interest in the 31-cap Kosovo international, while AC Milan are also said to be keeping tabs on the player, which goes to show just how highly rated he is. His versatility, work rate, immense dribbling skills, and tendency to pop up with important goals are just some of the many qualities that make him a top-class winger – and a player coach Igor Tudor would love to have at Juventus.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Juventus could receive a significant boost in their attempts to sign Zhegrova in the new year, with the club willing to negotiate personal terms with Atletico over the transfer of midfielder Gonzalez. Reports indicate that a deal could now be possible for Gonzalez to leave Juventus, amid growing frustration from Atletico boss Diego Someone after failing to bolster his midfield ranks so far this season.
