Juventus Welcome Young Defender Shane van Aarle
Juventus have signed 18-year-old Dutch defender Shane van Aarle from FC Eindhoven. The young defender will join Juventus’ Next Gen team as part of the club’s long-term development strategy.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The Italian club signed the young Dutch defender after fighting off competition from many English sides. Standing at 6’5″, Van Aarle has been playing for FC Eindhoven in the Dutch division as an amateur. Despite his status, the teenager has made an impact, playing 1,414 minutes in 19 games this term.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
This signing shows Juventus‘ strategy of finding young talent with promising potential. They have been looking for defensive reinforcements to complement their pursuit of offensive options for next season. Van Aarle has already played for the Netherlands U19 team. He played in European Championship qualifiers against Luxembourg and the Czech Republic in March.
Juventus’ interest in Van Aarle shows they think highly of the defender. PSV Eindhoven knocked Juventus out of the Champions League. The club have signed a player from their rival club, FC Eindhoven, which suggests they see special value in Van Aarle.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR VAN AARLE?
The Dutch defender will join Juventus officially this summer, signing a four-year contract until 2029. He is expected to start with Juventus’ second team in Serie C as part of their Next Gen project. FC Eindhoven will receive a small payment, despite Van Aarle’s amateur status.
The teenager will be looking to settle into the Juventus youth setup and will hope to break into the senior team soon. His playing style could prove useful for Juventus as he gets used to Italian football and attempts to climb through the ranks.
