Kevin De Bruyne is facing big questions about his future. The Manchester City star will leave the club at the end of the season, with the Belgium international admitting he is unsure about whether he will remain in the Premier League or find a new home abroad.
WHAT HAPPENED?
De Bruyne confirmed at the start of December that he would be leaving City at the end of the season, with his contract up in the summer. When asked about his future after a 5-2 win over Crystal Palace, De Bruyne said: “Honestly, I don’t know. The decision to leave hasn’t been long ago. I need to speak to a few clubs and then I will see whichever team wants me.”
WHY DOES IT MATTER?
De Bruyne will be in huge demand after bringing down the curtain on a spectacular spell at the Etihad Stadium. The midfielder has won six Premier League titles, a Champions League and the World Cup for Belgium. He may yet add an FA Cup title before he finally departs for pastures new. Arsenal have been linked with a move for De Bruyne, while Inter Miami hold his discovery rights in the United States, meaning they would have first chance to negotiate with the midfielder if he decides to head Stateside. Teams in Saudi Arabia have also been touted as possible suitors.
WHAT NEXT FOR KEVIN DE BRUYNE?
Manchester City likely won’t know final chapter until after FA Cup final. City plays in the semis against Nottingham Forest on April 27th, and if they win, will play Crystal Palace or Aston Villa on May 17th. In the Premier League, City are 5th place, 2 points ahead of 7th Aston Villa and 1 behind 3rd place Nottingham.
