Kyle Walker-Peters Joins West Ham on Three-Year Deal
Kyle Walker-Peters has agreed to join West Ham United on a three-year contract. The deal will last until June 2028. The 28-year-old full-back becomes a free agent after leaving Southampton, and he will join Graham Potter’s team.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Walker-Peters was about to sign with Turkish team Besiktas and was even invited for a medical test. But the talks fell apart at the last moment. Besiktas announced publicly that the deal was canceled because Walker-Peters asked for more time. The club decided not to pursue him anymore. This allowed West Ham to move quickly and offer him a three-year contract, which he accepted. The official paperwork and medical tests will happen soon.
HOW WALKER-PETERS FITS AT WEST HAM
West Ham finished 10th in the Premier League last season, missing out on European qualification. They recently signed left-back El Hadji Malick Diouf, and now Walker-Peters will add depth and experience on the right side. Walker-Peters has a background in the Premier League with Tottenham and Southampton, where he made a total of 202 appearances. Last season, he played 36 games for Southampton, scoring 2 goals and providing 4 assists in all competitions before becoming a free agent.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE HAMMERS?
West Ham’s next game is a preseason friendly against Ajax. The Premier League will start again in August. West Ham wants to strengthen their team more before the new season begins. They hope to improve on their mid-table finish from last year. With Walker-Peters joining, there will be more competition in defense. His presence will be important as manager Graham Potter considers his options for the right-back position for the new season.
