Lamine Yamal Officially Unveiled as Barcelona’s New Number 10

Barcelona has officially given Lamine Yamal the club’s famous number 10 shirt. This marks the beginning of a new era at the Camp Nou. Yamal now wears an iconic jersey once worn by legends like Lionel Messi.

OFFICIAL CEREMONY FOR LAMINE YAMAL

On July 16, Barcelona held a special event. They announced Yamal as the club’s number 10 for the 2025-26 season. The ceremony also celebrated his new contract. It has a €1 billion release clause, ensuring his long-term future with the team.

Yamal, who just turned 18, will now wear the shirt. He has impressed everyone with his performances for both Barcelona and Spain, recently winning the Young Player Award at UEFA Euro 2024. He takes over from Ansu Fati, who wore the shirt after Messi left and is now at Monaco.

THE HISTORIC LEGACY OF THE NUMBER 10

At Barcelona, the number 10 shirt is very special. Legends like Messi and Ronaldinho once wore it. Ansu Fati got the shirt in 2021 after Messi left, but injuries and his move to Ligue 1 left the number open.

Many people see Yamal as the brightest La Masia talent in years. He is expected to handle the pressure and expectations that come with wearing the number 10, having also won the 2024 Kopa Trophy, awarded to the world’s best young player.

LOOKING AHEAD: YAMAL AND BARCELONA’S FUTURE

Barcelona finished as clear winners in La Liga in the 2024-25 season, well ahead of second place Real Madrid. Yamal played an important role, scoring 13 goals and providing 10 assists in 41 games in all competitions. Their first La Liga game of the 2025-26 season is against Mallorca, who are expected to finish in mid-table and are Pablo Torre’s new team after being transferred from Barcelona.

Barcelona are eager to get their second league title in a row. The club is counting on Yamal’s creativity and leadership. As he takes to the pitch wearing the number 10 shirt, he aims to lead the team back to both domestic and European glory, reflecting on his past season where he helped the team win La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Supercopa de España in 2024–25.
