Lecce Add Tuur Rommens to Summer Transfer Targets

Lecce have added Belgian left-back Tuur Rommens to their list of summer transfer targets. However, they face competition from Bundesliga team Hoffenheim for his signature.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Tuur Rommens, who currently plays for Westerlo and is under contract until 2026, has attracted interest from clubs all over Europe. Lecce, who finished 17th in Serie A, narrowly avoiding relegation, have named Rommens as a potential addition to bolster their defense. German club Hoffenheim are also interested in the 22-year-old, making this transfer race very competitive.

PROFILE AND STAKES

Rommens was one of Westerlo’s standout performers in the Belgian Pro League last season. His consistent performances and marauding runs from the left-back position were praised despite Westerlo’s finish in the bottom half of the league. The young Belgian has made over 30 league appearances and provided several assists, making him a reliable option in both attack and defense. Both Lecce and Hoffenheim are in need of fresh faces at left-back, as neither of their current options has been consistent.

RAW AND UNFILTERED

Lecce will approach pre-season with plenty of questions still to answer regarding their team. The potential arrival of Rommens could go a long way towards solidifying their defense, as they aim for a more comfortable finish in Serie A next season. Hoffenheim finished in mid-table in the Bundesliga and will also be seeking upgrades to mount a challenge further up the league. Westerlo, meanwhile, could be set to earn a handsome transfer fee if a club meets their demands. Lecce’s next fixture is a mouth-watering season opener against Genoa, while Hoffenheim are preparing for a tough opening clash against Leverkusen who ended last season in 2nd place only behind Bayern Munich. With Rommens likely to leave, Westerlo will also be busy considering how to replace one of their key men ahead of the new season.
