Leeds United Increase Bid in Race to Sign Igor Paixão from Feyenoord
Leeds United have submitted a better offer for Igor Paixão. They’re trying to quickly sign the winger from Feyenoord before the new Premier League season begins.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On Saturday, Leeds United raised their bid for Brazilian winger Igor Paixão. Their earlier €30 million offer wasn’t enough to meet Feyenoord‘s demands. The Dutch side reportedly wants between €35 million and €40 million. Competition is fierce: the 25-year-old was close to joining Marseille and is also wanted by Roma. Leeds hope their new offer will convince Feyenoord to agree to a deal soon. If signed, Paixão would be Leeds’ eighth new player this summer transfer window. Leeds’ bid increase comes after they officially signed Lucas Perri from Lyon.
WHY PAIXÃO IS SO IMPORTANT FOR LEEDS
Leeds United recently won promotion to the Premier League and are focused on survival for the coming season. Their transfer strategy has mainly been solidifying the squad, with most signings being defenders and midfielders. However, Leeds need attacking options after Manor Solomon’s loan ended. Paixão, who mainly played on the left wing for Feyenoord last season, fits the bill as he can bring in creativity and goals. While Feyenoord finished second in the Eredivisie, just two points behind winners PSV, Paixão contributed 9 goals and 8 assists in 34 league matches. His arrival would help Leeds add quality in attack and respond to their mid-table rivals’ transfer moves.
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD?
The transfer window remains open for another six weeks, which gives Leeds some breathing space but they would want to finalise the deal quickly in order to integrate Paixão ahead of their season-opener. Their first Premier League match is in two weeks. Leeds are keen to build momentum, as every point will count in their fight to avoid relegation. The coming days will reveal if Feyenoord accept the improved bid or if competing bids from Marseille and Roma reignite a bidding war. For now, Leeds hope this move signals their ambition to keep themselves in the Premier League.
