Levi Colwill Faces Long Layoff After ACL Surgery In Chelsea Training

Chelsea defender Levi Colwill will miss most of the 2025-26 season. He suffered an ACL injury during his first training session back at the club. The 22-year-old has already had surgery and will now begin a long recovery.

WHAT HAPPENED AT CHELSEA TRAINING?

Colwill hurt his knee in the final moments of Chelsea’s first pre-season training session. This was after their Club World Cup victory. Medical tests showed a torn ACL that needed immediate surgery. The club said the operation was successful. Colwill will now work on his recovery with Chelsea’s medical team at Cobham.

The injury is a big setback for both Colwill and Chelsea. He played a significant role last season under manager Enzo Maresca, making 43 appearances. He helped the team win both the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Maresca expressed concern about Colwill’s injury, highlighting the impact it will have on the team’s plans.

CHELSEA’S PLANS HIT BY DEFENSIVE SETBACK

Chelsea’s return to the UEFA Champions League is now more difficult after finishing fourth in the Premier League. Colwill was a regular starter, playing 35 Premier League matches. He gave consistent performances in defense.

His absence is a significant problem as Chelsea tries to build on last season’s success. This included international appearances for Colwill with England and an assist in the Club World Cup win over Paris Saint-Germain. Manager Maresca praised Colwill, highlighting his key role in the club’s recent successes.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR CHELSEA’S SEASON?

Colwill’s injury leaves Chelsea without enough center-backs just as the season begins. With the Premier League starting against Crystal Palace, Chelsea must rely on other defensive players. They also have to compete in the Champions League group stages.

The team is eager to get closer to title rivals after finishing fourth last season, and to make a challenge for the title. Chelsea will need to find solutions quickly, with important matches coming up. Their European goals are now even harder to achieve without one of their key defenders.
