Liverpool Finalize Signing of Giovanni Leoni from Parma
Liverpool have made a deal to sign defender Giovanni Leoni from Parma. The Italian is set for his medical in Merseyside on Thursday. Leoni has already agreed to terms and is eager to join the Premier League side quickly.
TRANSFER DEAL COMPLETED
The deal is complete with all documents approved. Liverpool agreed to pay Parma around £26 million, potentially up to €30 million including bonuses, as reports suggest that this is the expected fee for Leoni.
Leoni will sign a six-year contract until 2031. The 18-year-old played 17 Serie A matches last season and will join the first team under coach Arne Slot.
Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konaté, and Joe Gomez already make up the center-back group. Leoni wanted Liverpool despite interest from other major clubs, including Inter Milan.
LIVERPOOL’S SITUATION AND NEW ARRIVAL
As the defending champions, Liverpool will start the Premier League season at Anfield against Bournemouth on Friday. The competition will likely be strong contenders Arsenal and Manchester City. Liverpool were the league champions last season, having finished ten points ahead of Arsenal, and will look to maintain their form this year.
Liverpool sold Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen, so there is a gap on the team for a versatile, talented defender. Leoni provides the depth Liverpool need, especially with a busy fixture schedule.
WHAT NEXT FOR LEONI AND LIVERPOOL?
Leoni will undergo medical tests before joining the squad. After he completes the move, he could make his Premier League debut at the opener against Bournemouth. Liverpool’s new signings, including Leoni, will be crucial as they aim to start their campaign strong and keep the lead over their rivals. Fans will be watching to see how Leoni fits into their title push.
