Liverpool Keep Up Pursuit of Alexander Isak After Newcastle Reject Record Bid
Liverpool are still trying to sign Alexander Isak, even though Newcastle United rejected a big offer for him. Newcastle do not want to lose one of their best players right now.
NEWCASTLE TURN DOWN LIVERPOOL’S MASSIVE OFFER
This week, Liverpool offered Newcastle more than £110 million for Isak, but the club said no. Newcastle value Isak at around £150 million, and they rejected Liverpool’s opening bid, which did not meet their valuation according to reports. Isak did not go on Newcastle’s trip to Asia because he is hurt and staying in Spain. The coach, Eddie Howe, has made it clear that he does not want to sell Isak, even though Liverpool are still interested. Newcastle are also trying to buy RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko for £70 million which may indicate they are preparing for a potential exit if they agree to sell him to Liverpool.
LIVERPOOL’S URGENT NEED FOR A STRIKER
This summer, Liverpool have already bought Hugo Ekitike, but they want another good striker. Last season, Liverpool finished as winners in the Premier League with 84 points, ten points ahead of 2nd place Arsenal. The team could not score in important games at the end of the season. Liverpool also sold Luis Díaz to Bayern Munich for about £65.5 million this summer, highlighting their need to find more forwards as reported. Meanwhile, Isak scored 21 goals in 37 league games last season, making him one of the best strikers in the Premier League. Newcastle want to get better after finishing fifth last season, but they might have to sell players to meet financial fair play rules.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Liverpool want Isak, but only if Newcastle agree to sell him. Newcastle’s next game is against Aston Villa, but Isak is still recovering from his injury which he cited as a minor thigh issue. Meanwhile, Liverpool’s new coach, Arne Slot, will manage his first competitive game in charge against Crystal Palace next week in the Community Shield. Both teams want to start the season well, but what happens with Isak could change Liverpool’s plans and even Newcastle’s plans too if Sesko joins soon.
