Liverpool Maintain Interest In Alexander Isak Amid Newcastle Uncertainty

Liverpool still want to sign Alexander Isak. They might make a new offer if Newcastle United decide to sell him. Isak wants to join Liverpool, which could make the end of the transfer window exciting this summer.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Newcastle said no to Liverpool‘s last offer for Isak. The offer was reportedly up to £120 million with add-ons which did not meet their valuation of around £150 million. Isak has not been with Newcastle on their pre-season tour in Asia. Officially, he is recovering from a minor thigh injury but has been training in Spain at Real Sociedad’s facilities, his old club. Manager Eddie Howe confirmed they rejected the offer but is unsure about Isak’s future. Newcastle have now bid £70 million for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško as a possible replacement if Isak leaves due to Isak’s uncertain status.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Isak has become one of the Premier League’s best strikers since joining Newcastle. He has scored 44 league goals in three seasons and was the top scorer last season with 27 goals across all competitions. He helped Newcastle finish 5th in the league, just securing Champions League qualification. Premier League winners Liverpool have been looking for a great striker after missing several targets. They even signed Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt. It seems like Newcastle are preparing for any situation regarding Isak’s future, especially since rivals have improved their squads during the summer window.

WHAT COMES NEXT?

Both clubs have important matches coming up as the season approaches. Liverpool begin their Premier League title defense at home against Bournemouth, and Newcastle face Aston Villa. Newcastle risk losing Isak, their main goal scorer. They must act quickly in the market. If Newcastle sign someone like Šeško as a replacement, Liverpool are likely to make a higher bid for Isak. Isak’s transfer story could stay in the news in the upcoming weeks.
