Liverpool Move Ahead in Race for Hugo Ekitike as Newcastle End Pursuit

Newcastle United have stopped trying to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike. Liverpool now have a better chance to sign the talented French forward.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Newcastle offered £70 million for Ekitike, but Eintracht Frankfurt rejected the bid. As reported, Eintracht Frankfurt has set an £80 million price tag on Ekitike, leading Newcastle to end their pursuit. Liverpool are interested in signing the player and have begun negotiations with Frankfurt. Furthermore, Ekitike had an impressive season last year, recording 22 goals and 12 assists in Germany. Liverpool are prepared to outbid Newcastle for him and enhance their attacking options.

NEWCASTLE’S TRANSFER PLAN CHANGES

Newcastle now have to explore other options and have shown interest in Brentford striker Yoane Wissa. The Magpies plan to partner the new forward with Alexander Isak. After finishing fifth in the Premier League last season, Newcastle are eager to boost their squad and are determined to start the campaign strong as they aim for a top-four finish in the league.

LIVERPOOL’S AMBITIONS AND WHAT’S NEXT

The Reds finished as league winners well before the league’s end last season and are keen on securing a forward to aid in their new title challenge and European competition runs. Liverpool is set to face Bournemouth at home, while Newcastle will open their season against Aston Villa, last season’s 6th placed-team. Both clubs aim to finalize their transfers and address their needs before the season kicks off.
