Liverpool Ready New Long-Term Contract for Rising Star Rio Ngumoha

Ngumoha, who joined Liverpool from Chelsea in 2024, has impressed at all academy levels. He even made his first-team debut in last season’s FA Cup. Because of age rules, Ngumoha is on a scholarship deal. But club rules allow him to sign a professional contract when he turns 17 on Aug. 29. The new deal is expected to last until 2028, tying him to the club for three years. Club management has outlined a clear development plan for Ngumoha to encourage his long-term commitment. This reflects their belief that he can get into the senior squad regularly.

RISING STAR IN A BUSY SQUAD

Ngumoha played for Liverpool’s U18, U19, and U21 teams during the 2024/25 season. He also trained regularly with the senior squad. He made his debut in a memorable FA Cup game against Accrington Stanley. Manager Arne Slot is working with a nearly full squad as Liverpool begins preparations for the new season. This may limit academy minutes in preseason matches. However, Ngumoha is still predicted to play during preseason and is being “trained for a bigger role in the future.” Ngumoha is expected to gradually increase his first-team appearances over the next few seasons rather than make a big breakthrough right away.
