Liverpool Sign Young Hungarian Goalkeeper Armin Pecsi
Liverpool have signed 20-year-old Hungarian goalkeeper Armin Pecsi from Puskas Akademia. The young talent has agreed to his contract with the Premier League champions after successful negotiations between the clubs.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Liverpool have completed all the formalities to sign Armin Pecsi. The 2005-born goalkeeper signed his contract with the Merseyside club today. The Premier League champions paid about £1.5 million to Puskas Akademia for the promising player. Pecsi left Hungary’s U21 national team training camp to travel to England and finish his transfer paperwork, missing Thursday’s match against Albania.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Pecsi’s arrival at Liverpool continues the club’s plan to secure young talents with big potential. The 20-year-old had a breakthrough season with Puskas Akademia, becoming the first-choice goalkeeper with 36 appearances and 11 clean sheets in all competitions. His performances earned him a nomination for the Golden Boy award, the first for a player from the Hungarian league. Liverpool, after their Premier League win, are strengthening their squad for the 2025/26 season.
GOALKEEPER DEPTH CHART
Pecsi is mainly a signing for the future and will join the U21 squad with occasional first-team training. He adds to Liverpool’s strong goalkeeping department. Alisson Becker remains the first-choice goalkeeper for the Reds, playing a big role in their recent Premier League win. The club is also reportedly adding Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili this summer, giving them more options in this position. Although they are champions, Liverpool are not being complacent in the transfer market and aim to stay competitive across all competitions.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR PECSI?
The young Hungarian goalkeeper will likely be officially introduced by Liverpool in the coming days. With 52 first-team appearances for Puskas Akademia since joining from Győr in 2017, Pecsi will now focus on adapting to his new surroundings and the demands of English football. Liverpool’s next Premier League campaign kicks off in August, where they’ll begin their title defense. The Reds are currently 5 points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table. While Pecsi isn’t expected to challenge for the number one spot immediately, his move to Liverpool offers a big step in his career and the club’s long-term plans.
