Loïs Openda Arrives in Turin to Complete Move to Juventus
Belgian striker Loïs Openda has landed in Italy to finalize his transfer from RB Leipzig to Juventus. He is a major deadline day signing for the club.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Openda, 25, arrived in Turin early Monday. He is set to have a medical before completing his move to Juventus. The two clubs agreed on a deal that includes a loan with an obligation to buy, with the total fee expected to be around €40 million as per reports. Juventus made Openda their main target after they failed to bring back Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain. Openda had a good spell at RB Leipzig, scoring 41 goals in 92 appearances after joining from Lens in 2023.
WHY JUVENTUS CHOSE OPENDA
Juventus finished the 2024-25 Serie A season in fourth place, securing them Champions League football according to previous reports. However, they struggled with attacking firepower. Their pursuit of Kolo Muani was blocked by PSG, so the club focused on Openda. The Belgian forward is fast and has a proven goal record to complement Dusan Vlahovic, who remains at the club. Openda also has international experience with Belgium, scoring three goals in 27 games for his country. He will join Edon Zhegrova, who also signed for Juventus recently, as new faces in Turin.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR JUVENTUS AND OPENDA?
Openda is expected to complete his medical and sign his contract later today, with an annual salary around €4 million. Juventus continue their new Serie A campaign in two weeks against Bologna at the Allianz Stadium. Last season, Bologna finished in 9th place, just outside the European spots, but won a historical Coppa Italia. Juventus are aiming to continue in the top of the league, as they are the only team to have two wins from two matches, alongside Roma, Cremonese and Napoli. With Champions League fixtures returning, Openda’s arrival is seen as a key move to boost their attack and fight for major trophies this season.
