Lorenzo Insigne Leaves Toronto FC by Mutual Agreement
Lorenzo Insigne, former Napoli and Italy player, has agreed to end his contract with Toronto FC. Now, the 34-year-old is a free agent and can sign with any club right away.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Insigne‘s contract was supposed to last until June 2026, but both Insigne and Toronto agreed to end it early. Insigne spent three and a half seasons in Major League Soccer, joining in July 2022. He scored 15 goals in 66 league appearances and earned a big salary. Now, Insigne is looking for new opportunities. There are reports he may want to go back to Italy or consider offers from clubs in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, or Turkey.
INSIGNE’S IMPACT AT TORONTO FC
Insigne arrived in Toronto after a successful career at Napoli, where he scored 96 goals in 337 Serie A matches. In Toronto, he brought experience and skill, but the team struggled during his time there. This MLS season, Toronto FC is in the lower half of the Eastern Conference, far from the playoff spots. Insigne scored goals and made assists, but the team’s poor performance led to this big change, ending with Insigne leaving the club.
WHAT NEXT FOR INSIGNE AND TORONTO FC?
Now a free agent, Insigne can talk to any team. His agents are looking for options in Serie A. Earlier this year, Fiorentina and Como seemed interested. Toronto FC, on the other hand, must continue without one of their main attacking players. They have a game against DC United, a team close to them in the standings. Both these clubs are trying to reach the playoffs.
