Luis Díaz Confirms Barcelona Talks Before Choosing Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich winger Luis Díaz has confirmed he talked with Barcelona this summer but decided to join the German champions after leaving Liverpool. Díaz added that he is content with his decision now and looking forward to a bright future.

WHAT HAPPENED?

After leaving Liverpool in the summer, Díaz revealed he held talks with Barcelona regarding the possibility of a deal. According to Díaz, these discussions were normal practice in any transfer window. Eventually, the Colombia international winger signed for Bayern Munich despite temptations to switch to La Liga. Barcelona had to settle for landing Marcus Rashford on loan to bolster their attacking options. Díaz was asked about the final decision of joining Bayern over Barcelona. Speaking to reporters, he said:

WHAT DIAZ SAID?

“Yes (Barça negotiated to sign me). They are things that can happen in the world of football. We had that proposal, as I said, but we never doubted it. They said ‘we have an idea here’; we never went crazy. We always had that idea of going to Bayern. I think it was the best thing I could have done. Now quiet, focused and happy here with Bayern. I am still happy.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Bayern are flying high in the Bundesliga as they sit at the top of the table after three games with 9 points. Díaz has quickly become a key player for Vincent Kompany’s men after he watched them from the sidelines for six months following his transfer from Liverpool in January 2025. He has scored twice and assisted once in five league matches this season. As confirmed by reports, Díaz’s transfer to Bayern Munich was reportedly for €75 million, and he has signed a contract with the club until 2029.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR DIAZ?

Despite Bavarian dominance in Germany, they still face stiff competition from Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund for the title. The two clubs sit just below them in the league standings. Meanwhile, Díaz’s former suitors Barcelona too are unbeaten in the league as they sit in second position, two points behind leaders Real Madrid.
