Luis Enrique Calls Barcelona’s Pedri “Harry Potter” Ahead Of PSG Clash

PSG manager Luis Enrique has praised Barcelona midfielder Pedri before their Champions League clash, comparing the young Spaniard to the famous wizard Harry Potter.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Luis Enrique couldn’t hide his admiration for his former player. “He knows me well,” the PSG boss said with a smile, “but for me he’s Harry Potter. Let’s hope he leaves that magic wand at home tomorrow.”

His comments show respect for the 22-year-old midfielder. Pedri played under Luis Enrique during his time as Spain national team coach before the manager took over at PSG this season.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

This isn’t the first time Luis Enrique has compared Pedri to a wizard. Back in 2022, Enrique said the Barcelona star was like “Harry Potter” and compared his playing style to club legend Andres Iniesta. Currently, Barcelona are at the top of La Liga with 19 points from 7 games, just one point ahead of former leaders Real Madrid after a crucial win against Real Sociedad, which can be further explored in detail here. Moreover, Barcelona remain unbeaten in La Liga, recently securing a 3-1 comeback victory at Real Oviedo, which showcases their strong performance this season here.

Pedri has been important to their success this season, ranking 11th in the Ballon d’Or rankings for 2025 here. He has contributed two goals and one assist while playing eight league games.

WHAT’S NEXT?

The Champions League match between PSG and Barcelona promises to be a fascinating encounter between two European giants. PSG want to make their mark in the competition after a disappointing campaign last season. For Barcelona, this is a chance to prove they belong among Europe’s elite again. It’s noteworthy that Barcelona will be missing Raphinha for this important Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain here.

Pedri’s performance could be key to determining which team takes control of their group. Luis Enrique will hope his tactical knowledge can limit the “magic” of his former player when the teams meet in Catalunya.
