Luka Modrić Set for AC Milan Move as Igli Tare Confirms Signing Real Madrid Legend and Hails Potential Role as Key Leader

WHAT HAPPENED?

AC Milan director Igli Tare confirmed the signing of Real Madrid’s Luka Modrić in a statement released by the club on Saturday. He sees “great potential” in the Croatian legend “to become a key player and a leader, both on and off the field.” Modrić has agreed to a contract with Milan that will run until June 2027. The 41-year-old guided Los Blancos to victory in his last game for the club on Thursday as they beat Pachuca 1-0 in the Club World Cup final at the Mercedes Benz Arena in Atlanta, USA.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Modric hails from Real Madrid, has been there for the past 13 years, and is a team legend. He only signed a one-year contract with the club last year, and as the agreement drew to a close in June, the club chose not to extend the player’s term.

WHAT MODRIC SAID ON HIS AC MILAN MOVE

The 41-year-old stated in the statement: “I have a strong desire to continue playing and competing at the highest level. This is why when AC Milan’s proposal reached me, I was adamant to grab the Rossoneri‘s jersey”.

He added, Milan is a highly competitive club with a rich history and pedigree. It’s a great team with a strong future, fantastic players, and a clear concept and strategy. I am looking forward to the challenges that this new journey will bring me,” said the man nicknamed “The Heir” to the thrown of Croatian football icon Zvonimir Boban.”

WHAT NEXT FOR AC MILAN?

AC Milan is rebuilding after failing to qualify for European football next season, and their initial goal will be for a finish that would allow them to get back to football’s highest stage after a good performance in the Serie A. They will start their league campaign in August.
