Mainz Secure Future of Polish Teen Star Kacper Potulski With Long-Term Contract

Mainz have agreed a new contract with young Polish defender Kacper Potulski. The teenager’s impressive rise and strong preseason displays with the first team have been rewarded.

WHAT LED TO THE NEW DEAL?

Potulski is just 17 years old but has been making waves at Mainz since joining the club’s academy. The tall centre-back, who stands at 1.93m, played 21 matches and logged 1,890 minutes for Mainz’s U19 side last season, scoring 3 goals and earning praise for his calm defending and aerial presence. Recent performances in preseason friendlies, where he featured alongside the first team, convinced club officials to offer him a three-year deal with an option for a fourth, potentially keeping him at the club until June 2029.

MAINZ’S YOUTH POLICY AND 2024/25 OUTLOOK

This renewal fits Mainz’s focus on developing young talent. The club finished 6th in the Bundesliga last season and has qualified for the Conference League this season, so they will need to increase the size of their squad with the added matches in the calendar. With a new campaign ahead, integrating promising youth like Potulski could be key to climbing the table and stabilizing their Bundesliga status. Potulski’s rise comes as Mainz look to blend experienced players with academy graduates in a squad rebuild.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR POTULSKI AND MAINZ?

Potulski will continue preseason with the first team and hope to earn his professional debut soon. Mainz’s first Bundesliga fixture of the season is against Koln, a side that finished mid-table last year. With young players pushing for minutes, the competition for places promises to be fierce. If Potulski impresses, he could become a central figure in Mainz’s defense and a future Polish international.
