Mamardashvili Confirms Commitment to Liverpool: No More Loans
Giorgi Mamardashvili has settled any questions about his future. He will join Liverpool for the 2025-26 season and will not look for another loan. The Georgian goalkeeper is ready to fight for his place at Anfield and is eager to work with Alisson Becker.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The 24-year-old goalkeeper says he will join Liverpool for pre-season and is not thinking about any more loan deals. Last summer, Liverpool agreed to a deal worth £25 million, plus £4 million in extras, for Mamardashvili. This let him stay at Valencia for the 2024-25 season. His last season in La Liga ended with Valencia in 12th place. Mamardashvili played 102 games for the club since 2021, with 31 shutouts. The deal was made so he could keep playing first-team football in Spain before joining Liverpool this summer.
LIVERPOOL’S GOALKEEPER SITUATION
Mamardashvili will soon join Liverpool’s goalkeepers and compete for the No.1 spot with Alisson and Caoimhin Kelleher. Alisson is still an important player, with an option to extend his contract. Kelleher has also played regularly. Mamardashvili joins after a great Euro 2024 with Georgia, where he made 21 saves in the group stage, matching a tournament record. In his last season for Valencia, he showed he’s one of La Liga’s most reliable goalkeepers.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR LIVERPOOL AND MAMARDASHVILI?
In the new season, Liverpool starts the Arne Slot era and wants to improve on their third-place finish in the Premier League last year. Their first competitive game is against Wolverhampton Wanderers, who finished 14th last season. Liverpool is five points behind Manchester City, the current champions, and three points ahead of Arsenal. Mamardashvili is expected to challenge both Alisson and Kelleher for playing time, making goalkeeping a position to watch at Anfield. His determination and experience in Spain and Europe could be important as Liverpool tries to win trophies in multiple competitions.
