Manchester City Agree Deal for Tijjani Reijnders in €70m Transfer Package

Manchester City and AC Milan have agreed on the transfer of Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders. The deal could be worth up to €70 million with performance-related add-ons.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Manchester City have finalized the signing of Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan. They will pay an initial fee of €57 million, which can rise to €65 million or even €70 million if certain conditions are met. Reijnders was a key player at Milan, scoring 15 goals last season, and was named Serie A Midfielder of the Year. He is expected to sign a five-year contract with City. The club wants to include him in their squad for the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, starting with their match against Wydad AC on June 18.

WHY THIS MOVE MATTERS

Manchester City need to strengthen their midfield after Kevin De Bruyne’s departure. Although they signed Nico Gonzalez from Porto in January, they see Reijnders as the creative player they need to continue their success in England and Europe. City won the Premier League again last season, finishing two points ahead of Arsenal. For AC Milan, losing their star midfielder is a blow. They finished third in Serie A, 19 points behind champions Inter, and need to improve if they want to challenge for the title next season.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR CITY AND REIJNDERS?

The paperwork is expected to be completed in the next few days, allowing Reijnders to play in the Club World Cup. The Dutch international will join a City squad aiming to defend their domestic title and win the Champions League again. His arrival gives manager Pep Guardiola an immediate creative boost. AC Milan will now focus on reinvesting the transfer fee as they look to rebuild after a tough season. Their first match of the 2025-26 Serie A campaign is against Roma, as they try to return to the top of Italian football.
