Manchester City are working to keep rising midfielder Nico O’Reilly for the long term. A new contract with a pay rise is expected soon.

NEGOTIATIONS REACH FINAL STAGE

Talks between Manchester City and Nico O’Reilly’s team have progressed well. The 20-year-old has impressed manager Pep Guardiola after rejecting Chelsea’s offer in January. City now see him as a priority for a contract extension. Reports say the new deal will include a big pay increase, possibly raising his weekly wage to £25,000. Although his current contract runs until 2028, City want to reward him and deter other Premier League teams from making offers.

O’REILLY’S IMPACT THIS SEASON

Nico O’Reilly has quickly become a regular for Guardiola, making his first Premier League start in a 2-0 win against Leicester. He has since delivered key performances, including a late goal in City’s 2-0 victory over Everton. With several starts and substitute appearances, O’Reilly has shown incredible versatility and maturity for his age, supporting Manchester City in their Premier League title campaign. City are now second in the table, just two points behind leaders Arsenal, with four matches left in the season.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR CITY AND O’REILLY?

Manchester City aim to finalize O’Reilly’s contract extension and integrate him deeply into the squad for the 2025-26 campaign. The team will face Aston Villa, who are seventh in the table but only 1 point behind the Citizens in 4th place, in an important Premier League match. City need a win to stay close to the top-3 where Newcastle currently is with one point more than Pep Guardiola’s team. O’Reilly is eager to continue his strong performance as Manchester City aim for silverware in the season’s final weeks.
