Manchester City Open Talks With AC Milan Over Tijjani Reijnders Transfer

Manchester City and AC Milan are negotiating for midfielder Tijjani Reijnders. City have made an initial offer of €60 million, including add-ons, to the Italian club.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Reijnders is City’s top target for central midfield before the summer transfer window. The club have made an initial bid of around €60 million. Milan, however, want a higher fee. Conversations between the two clubs continue, and intermediaries are helping speed things up. Meanwhile, Reijnders has reportedly cancelled his vacation to stay prepared for any developments as City aim to complete the deal before the Club World Cup in mid-June.

REIJNDERS’ IMPACT AND THE SEASON SO FAR

The 26-year-old midfielder has been outstanding for Milan since joining from AZ Alkmaar in 2023. He was named in the Serie A Team of the Season after scoring goals, providing assists, and working tirelessly. Milan finished second behind Juventus in the Italian top tier but crashed out of the knockout stages of the Champions League. Meanwhile, City have endured a forgetful campaign. They went trophyless for the first time in five years and secured their place in the 2026-27 edition of the Champions League with a 3-0 win over West Ham United in the league. The club certainly need freshening up, and such performances may have put more pressure on Pep Guardiola’s shoulders to re-energise his squad.

WHAT NEXT?

City plan to complete the transfer quickly, with the Club World Cup scheduled in the United States in mid-June. Milan value Reijnders at €90 million, but a deal could be agreed for €66 million. Negotiations between the clubs will continue, and City will hope to find an agreement soon. Their next competitive game is the Club World Cup group-stage match against Colorado Rapids. Adding Reijnders could strengthen their midfield options. Milan will begin to prepare for the next campaign and look to sign a replacement if Reijnders leaves the club.
