Manchester City Pushes for Claudio Echeverri Loan Move to Girona
Manchester City wants to send young Argentine player Claudio Echeverri on loan to Girona for the 2025/26 season. Both clubs and the player are still talking about this decision.
WHAT’S THE LATEST?
City wants the 19-year-old midfielder Echeverri, who joined from River Plate, to join Girona, like Brazilian defender Vitor Reis. Girona is part of City Football Group, so coordination would be easy. However, Echeverri seems to prefer a move to Serie A side AS Roma.
THE ROADBLOCK: ECHEVERRI WANTS ITALY MOVE
Echeverri is interested in joining Roma on loan, with the club keen on signing him as well. The club wants to extend the loan deal with an option to buy. Loaning him to Girona will give City more control over the player’s future, and the club hierarchy is not willing to send the player to Roma amid interest from other teams, as they value the player’s potential. RB Leipzig are rumoured to be interested in securing a permanent deal, but such a move is unlikely.
WHAT NEXT FOR CLAUDIO ECHEVERRI?
Echeverri joined City in the summer of 2024 and has not got his chance in first-team football yet. Although he is unlikely to play for City in the upcoming season, the 20-year-old could find more playing time at Girona should City loan him out to their partner club. While his future this summer is uncertain, City are unlikely to let go of him on a permanent basis as they continuously see improvements in training.
Manchester City’s next game is against Wolves for the Premier League opener, as they try to reclaim silverware after failing to win any titles last season.
