Manchester City Say No to Sending Trafford Out on Loan

Manchester City have made it clear that James Trafford will not be leaving the club on loan this summer. Trafford remains an important part of their plan and is expected to sign a five-year contract with an option for a sixth season at Manchester City.

FALSE RUMORS ABOUT BESIKTAS MOVE

There have been reports suggesting that Trafford was close to joining Turkish club Besiktas on loan, with his agent even traveling to Istanbul for talks. However, insiders claim that those rumors are inaccurate and that there have been no discussions about a loan move for Trafford. The club from Turkiye has not made contact either, and he will remain part of the squad for the 2027-28 season.

TRAFFORD SET TO REMAIN AS CITY’S NUMBER ONE

Trafford earned the No. 1 shirt after joining for £27 million from Burnley, a year after he moved to Turf Moor. With Ederson injured, Trafford started both of City‘s league games, keeping a clean sheet against Wolves. Last season, he kept 30 clean sheets and conceded only 16 goals in the Championship, which has earned him a reputation as one of England’s best young goalkeepers according to reports. The 23-year-old is considered the future of City’s goalkeeping department, and while Pep Guardiola is keen to add competition, he will not send Trafford out on loan this summer.

WHERE CITY COULD ADD COMPETITION FOR TRAFFORD THIS SEASON

Gianluigi Donnarumma has expressed his desire to join City and there were initial indications that Manuel Neuer could join Manchester United. However, those two moves appear unlikely with United struggling financially. If Ederson returns to fitness, there is every chance Trafford could win the No. 1 position for his club once again, but providing he stays fit, he will remain first choice until the taça Libertadores quarterfinals at least.
