Manchester City Secure Deal for Tottenham’s Dexter Oliver in Latest Youth Recruitment Move
Manchester City have agreed to sign 16-year-old midfielder Dexter Oliver from Tottenham Hotspur. The deal will be complete within 48 hours. Oliver, a top player in Spurs’ youth team, will join City’s academy. City are focused on developing young football talent.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Manchester City have been in talks with Tottenham to sign Dexter Oliver. Now, an agreement is in place. Oliver, known for his creative play and scoring for Spurs’ Under-18s, scored 28 goals in 35 appearances last season as Spurs won the Under-18s Premier League. He refused a new two-year deal with Tottenham. This allowed City to step in, and Oliver will soon join the Etihad Campus. City continue to attract the country’s best prospects to their academy system.
WHY IT MATTERS
City aim to be the best club in the world. In order to sustain that, young players and future first-team players are necessary. They showcased it with Rico and Bobb. Players know what that means. That’s why they have the power to bring these talents.
So far, they’ve already agreed to sign a promising left-back from Liverpool and a highly rated goalkeeper from Southampton. They’ve been looking to sign Oliver for a while as well, and it’s finally done. He will join Manchester City’s elite Development Squad for sure as they get ready for the next season.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR CITY, SPURS, AND OLIVER?
Manchester City finished third in the Premier League, and lack some homegrown players. Therefore, many young players will keep getting their chances. City’s midfield is sorted for now, but players like Rico Lewis, Phil Foden, and Oscar Bobb are playing regularly in the first team. Therefore, Oliver would love to emulate Bobb’s brilliant season in the next campaign.
Some of City’s famous academy players are back in the club after their Chelsea loan, and it will be interesting to see what happens with them. At the same time, many young players are also linked with other clubs. Pep Guardiola will be hoping for some promising English players at club in the next season.
Tottenham, on the other hand, have another new manager again, and Dexter Oliver’s departure can be a huge setback for the club. Ange Postecoglou, who won the UEFA Europa League with them, left the club in a shocking manner and now, Frank needs his team to step up.
Moving to Manchester City is probably the best move Oliver could have made, and now he needs to work hard and make sure to join his mentors in the first team playing regularly.
