Manchester City Secure Gianluigi Donnarumma in Long-Term Deal

Manchester City have signed Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. His contract lasts until June 2030, with an extra-year option. Reports confirm that Donnarumma has signed a five-year deal with Manchester City.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Manchester City signed Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain for £30 million. He is now the new first-choice goalkeeper for the Premier League contenders. As per reports, City are in advanced talks to sign Donnarumma for a fee of around €30-35 million. The contract keeps Donnarumma at the club until June 2030, with a possible extension until 2031. Ederson’s move to Fenerbahce allowed Donnarumma to become City’s number one goalkeeper.

DONNARUMMA’S ARRIVAL AND CITY’S SITUATION

Donnarumma joins a strong Manchester City squad. As of early September 2025, however, the team is struggling after back to back losses and only three points from three matches. He had a mixed season at PSG, where Donnarumma stated he was disappointed and disheartened to lose his place in the team, but still has over 60 caps for Italy and years as PSG’s number one. With Ederson leaving, he will compete with James Trafford for the starting spot. City believe that Donnarumma is a better long-term option than Ederson, positioning him as their future long-term goalkeeper.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR MAN CITY AND DONNARUMMA?

Manchester City have a tough schedule ahead. Their next match is against Manchester United, one point above them in the league. Donnarumma may debut next match, allowing fans to see the new star signing. As the Champions League group stage starts later in September, City hope Donnarumma’s experience will help them win another European title. They plan to integrate him quickly, enhancing their defense that was strong last season.
