Manchester City Sign Norwegian Star Sverre Nypan

Manchester City have signed 18-year-old Sverre Nypan from Rosenborg for a reported fee of €15 million. The deal beat top European teams to secure one of Scandinavia’s top young talents. The midfielder has signed a contract with the club until 2030 and will join City’s pre-season squad.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Manchester City secured a future star, winning the race against clubs like Arsenal and Aston Villa to sign Sverre Nypan. The midfielder had a standout time with Rosenborg, debuting at 15 and making 70 appearances, scoring 14 goals and assisting 11 more, as noted in a recent update on his transfer. City’s scouts appreciated his versatility, technical skills, and maturity, and club officials believe that with Pep Guardiola’s guidance, Nypan’s development will continue. Although a loan deal hasn’t been finalized, it remains an option for him this season, as reported in earlier discussions.

WHAT DID NYPAN AND THE CITY HAVE TO SAY?

Sverre Nypan is regarded as one of Europe’s top teenage prospects, capable of playing deeper midfield roles, further forward, wide, and even as a striker in Norway’s top flight. He also represented Norway at Under-21 level, following in the footsteps of countrymen Erling Haaland and Oscar Bobb at Manchester City. Nypan expressed his delight at joining City, emphasizing the opportunity to work with world-renowned manager Pep Guardiola and a squad full of great players.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR Nypan?

Nypan will join City’s senior squad for pre-season training, which begins on July 28. He could be loaned out for more experience this season, depending on his progress and the club’s plans. Manchester City, who have failed to win any trophy last season, will look to reclaim the title in the 2025-26 season. Their next match is the Premier League opener against Wolves, who have been a very difficult opponent at the Etihad in recent years. City will be looking to integrate new signings while maintaining their dominance at the top of English football.
