Manchester City Sign PSG Wonderkid Mahamadou Sangare

Manchester City have signed 18-year-old forward Mahamadou Sangare from Paris Saint-Germain. They beat several top European clubs to the young player’s signature, as the French striker joined the Premier League champions after a brilliant youth career in Paris.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Sangare completed his move to City by signing a five-year deal after leaving PSG. At the end of his PSG contract, the Premier League side moved fast to snap up the forward, who had piqued the interest of multiple clubs after a free-scoring campaign at youth level. Last year, Sangare scored 33 goals in 35 matches for PSG’s U19s, adding eight goals and two assists in six UEFA Youth League appearances, to mark himself out as one of Europe’s top young striking talents. Despite involvement in first-team training, he did not make a senior appearance, deciding to look for chances elsewhere.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Manchester City have been building a strong pipeline of young talent, with Sangare the next big part of those plans. He joins a list of teenage signings, including Norwegian wonderkid Sverre Nypan. His signing is notable as it is his first professional contract, having not signed terms while at PSG. City’s policy of signing emerging stars is designed to secure their future by creating competition for places in the first team to keep them at the top of the game.

Manchester City aim to integrate more young talent into their senior squad from the academy to strengthen their roster further.

According to a previous report, this approach is part of their strategy to build a strong team.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR CITY AND SANGARE?

Manchester City head into the new season from a season with no trophies won after the Community Shield last August. The club finished the 2024-25 campaign third in the table, behind Arsenal and champions Liverpool. City’s next fixture is the Community Shield against FA Cup winners Manchester United, a big occasion to open the new season. For Sangare, the immediate focus will be integrating into City’s elite development squad, with the hope of impressing and moving into the senior set-up.
