Manchester City Suffer Major Blow as Omar Marmoush Ruled Out of Derby
Manchester City confirmed Omar Marmoush will be out for several weeks with a knee ligament injury. He will miss the important match against Manchester United on Sunday. Marmoush’s absence adds more problems to Pep Guardiola’s side, who are already dealing with many injuries. This adds pressure before the first Manchester Derby of the season. Marmoush will not play in the upcoming derby.
WHAT HAPPENED TO CITY’S FORWARDS?
Omar Marmoush got a knee ligament injury in Egypt’s World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso. He left the field after nine minutes and later used crutches in Cairo. Coach Pep Guardiola confirmed Marmoush will be out for “a few weeks” after more tests. Defenders Rayan Aït-Nouri and Rayan Cherki will also miss the derby. Marmoush performed well after joining City in January, scoring eight goals in 28 games, making him an important player for Pep Guardiola. He scored more than Erling Haaland during this time. With other attacking players missing, City’s attack will struggle in upcoming matches.
THE GROWING INJURY LIST AND SEASON SO FAR
Marmoush joins a long list of injured players, which includes Phil Foden, Kovacic, Gvardiol, Savinho, and others. These missing players make it hard for Manchester City. The current champion lost two of their first three league games, the first time under Guardiola. After a 4-0 win over Wolves, City lost to Tottenham and Brighton, dropping below United in the standings. City are currently facing challenges in the Premier League, sitting mid-table, just one point behind Manchester United. United also have issues; they needed a last-minute penalty to beat Burnley but recently saw Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez return to training.
WHAT’S NEXT: THE DERBY AND THE REST OF SEPTEMBER
Manchester City will host Manchester United on Sunday at the Etihad Stadium. United is just above City in the Premier League table, and both teams need points to catch up with the early leader, Liverpool. City is one points behind United, with Chelsea close behind both teams. With so many key players out, Guardiola faces big choices for the attack. City needs to recover quickly; after the derby, they have challenging matches against Aston Villa and Newcastle, teams currently aiming for the top four. The next few weeks will test City’s team depth and title chances.
