Manchester United Set To Sign Goalkeeper Senne Lammens From Royal Antwerp
Manchester United have agreed with Royal Antwerp to sign Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens for €21 million plus extra fees. According to reports, Manchester United are getting closer to signing Lammens, with discussions around a transfer fee nearing €20 million.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Manchester United and Antwerp have agreed on terms for Lammens‘ move to Old Trafford. The fee is about €21 million (around £18.2 million), with extra clauses. The Belgian keeper, who is 22 years old, played over 30 matches for Royal Antwerp last season, keeping 12 clean sheets and helping them finish fifteenth in the Belgian Pro League. He also gained valuable Champions League experience.
WHY UNITED MOVED FOR LAMMENS
Manchester United have had problems in goal this season, with Andre Onana struggling. They finished fifteenth in the Premier League last season, missing out on Champions League qualification, and were knocked out in the FA Cup quarter-finals. Lammens is viewed as an option to increase competition and depth in goal. His agility and shot-stopping skills caught United’s scouts’ attention. Additionally, Royal Antwerp will need to find a replacement quickly, as they are just one point off the top of the Belgian league.
WHAT NEXT FOR UNITED AND LAMMENS?
Lammens is expected in Manchester soon to complete the deal. Manchester United’s next match is against Manchester City on September 14. They are currently sitting eighth in the Premier League after three games. Manager Ruben Amorim will try to bring Lammens into first-team training as they aim for European spots. Meanwhile, Royal Antwerp will prepare for their league game against KAA Gent, needing to adjust without Lammens.
