Manchester United Submit €85m Bid for Benjamin Šeško Amid Transfer Battle with Newcastle

Manchester United have made a formal bid of €85 million, including extra payments, for Benjamin Šeško. The RB Leipzig striker is also being chased by Newcastle United, whose bid is worth €90 million. Šeško’s next destination will be revealed soon as the two clubs battle it out for the Slovenian forward.

WHAT HAPPENED?

United’s proposal was lodged on Thursday following Newcastle’s aggressive approach for the 22-year-old. As per Times Sport’s latest update, the player did not train with the Leipzig squad this afternoon amid the transfer talk surrounding him. The decision on his new destination, however, remains in Šeško’s hands. As Benjamin Šeško is deciding his future as both clubs try to sign him, he remains under contract at Leipzig until 2029.

WHY ARE MANCHESTER UNITED AND NEWCASTLE SCRAMBLING FOR ŠEŠKO?

Both clubs are in desperate need of a striker after mixed results last season. Manchester United finished outside the Champions League places, scoring just 44 goals in 38 games, the second worst attack of teams that were not relegated, while Newcastle ended the campaign in 5th place, reaching Champions League qualification for the 2024/25 season. With Alexander Isak possibly leaving for Liverpool, striker reinforcement is crucial. Šeško enjoyed a breakthrough Bundesliga season, netting 18 goals and providing 5 assists in 32 appearances, making him a key target for Ruben Amorim and Eddie Howe this summer.

WHAT NEXT?

Newcastle have set a fresh 48-hour deadline for Šeško and remain hopeful of seeing a positive response. With both teams set to play pre-season fixtures this week and the Premier League opener against Arsenal just around the corner, the outcome of Šeško’s battle could define the fortunes of both clubs in the 2025-26 season.
