Marash Kumbulla Set to Join Mallorca on Loan from AS Roma

Mallorca will bring Albanian defender Marash Kumbulla from AS Roma on loan. The deal includes an €8 million buy option. Kumbulla will soon travel to Spain for his medical. This move is a big boost for Mallorca’s squad as they get ready for the new La Liga season, with the club aiming to strengthen their backline by adding Kumbulla.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Kumbulla was on loan at Espanyol last season and is not part of Roma’s plans for this season. The 25-year-old defender had interest from clubs in Italy and Spain. This included Cagliari and a possible return to Espanyol. However, Kumbulla made up his mind to join Mallorca, who quickly completed the loan deal with an option to buy him next summer. The team has set up his medical exam as they aim to finalize the move soon.

MALLORCA’S SITUATION AND KUMBULLA’S IMPACT

Mallorca finished last season in 10th place, just below European places. Their defense is looking for improvements on the quest for European spots and they hope the Roma player provides just that. Kumbulla’s experience in Serie A and La Liga is seen as important. He played 30 league matches and scored 2 goals for Espanyol last season, helping them survive relegation. Kumbulla’s defensive organization and ability to play from the backfield will provide new options to coach Javier Aguirre. The team aims for more security in the season.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR MALLORCA AND THEIR UPCOMING CHALLENGE

Mallorca’s next match is the La Liga opener against Barcelona, the current title holders and favourites to win the new season of La Liga. Mallorca wants to highlight their new signing and start the season well. Fans hope that Kumbulla’s arrival signals the start of a more stable and successful year for the Balearic club.
