Marc Guehi Set to Leave Crystal Palace This Summer

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is likely to leave Selhurst Park this summer as the team plans to change its lineup. The England international has caught the eye of top Premier League clubs including Chelsea, Newcastle, and Tottenham.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is reportedly fine with selling both Marc Guehi and teammate Eberechi Eze this summer to raise funds for a major squad rebuild. Guehi, who has just one year left on his contract, is not interested in extending it, even though Palace wants to secure his future. The club has stated they won’t accept offers below £60 million for the 24-year-old center-back, which could lead to a bidding war in the upcoming transfer window.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chelsea is leading the race to re-sign Guehi, who they sold to Palace for just £18 million in 2021. The Blues are reportedly ready to offer up to £50 million to bring him back. Newcastle previously tried to sign him with offers up to £65 million last summer, and Tottenham is also interested. Palace is already planning for Guehi’s possible departure and has identified Arsenal’s versatile defender Jakub Kiwior as a potential replacement.

Crystal Palace currently sits 12th in the Premier League table with 43 points from 35 games. They’ve maintained a strong defense this season, with Guehi playing a key role. The team is seven points above the relegation zone and eight points behind West Ham in 8th place, which could lead to European football depending on cup results.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR GUEHI?

While Chelsea seems to be the leader for Guehi’s signature, recent reports have also linked Liverpool with interest in the defender. The Reds are reportedly looking to strengthen their defense with Guehi seen as a possible long-term partner for Virgil van Dijk or his future replacement.

As Palace prepares to face Manchester United at Selhurst Park in their next Premier League match, Guehi will focus on finishing the season well before what will be an important summer for his career. The Eagles have three matches left this season and will aim for a top-half finish, providing a positive starting point for their planned squad changes.
