Marco Asensio Set for Fenerbahçe Move as Deal Nears Completion
Fenerbahçe are close to signing Marco Asensio from Paris Saint-Germain. All parties are confident the deal will soon be complete. The Spanish winger has accepted the contract terms and is ready to begin a new chapter in Turkey.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Fenerbahçe have reached an agreement with PSG to sign Marco Asensio. The winger was no longer in Luis Enrique’s plans at PSG. The deal will see the 29-year-old join Fenerbahçe on a contract reportedly worth €9 million per season. Asensio, whose PSG contract expires in 2026, spent the last six months on loan at Aston Villa, scoring eight goals and providing one assist in 21 games. The transfer fee is valued around €15 million, and only the final approval from PSG remains before the deal is finalized.
ASENSIO’S SEASON SO FAR
After a decent first year at PSG, where he scored seven goals and delivered 11 assists in 47 appearances, Asensio had less playing time under Luis Enrique. Left out of PSG’s Club World Cup squad, he sought more opportunities and shone during his Aston Villa loan spell in the Premier League. His performance attracted interest from other clubs like Inter Milan, but Fenerbahçe moved quickly to secure his services.
WHAT COMES NEXT FOR FENERBAHÇE?
Fenerbahçe finished second in the Turkish Süper Lig last season, and they are investing heavily in the squad to challenge for the title and perform in Europe next season. The club has appointed José Mourinho as manager and aims to finalize their preparations before their first official match, which is scheduled against Sivasspor. With the addition of Asensio, Fenerbahçe aim to close the gap at the top and make a strong push for domestic and continental success.
According to a previous report, Fenerbahçe finished second in the Turkish Super Lig last season, and they are working to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
