Maxi Oyedele Turns Down Shakhtar Donetsk Amid Strong European Interest

Maxi Oyedele, who was once at Manchester United and now plays for Legia Warsaw, says no to Shakhtar Donetsk. Many European clubs are interested in the 20-year-old, who has a €6 million release clause.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Shakhtar Donetsk tried to sign Oyedele after he played well for Legia Warsaw. The midfielder has been impressive in Poland, playing 21 times for the team and also earning a call-up to the Polish national side.

Shakhtar was ready to pay €6 million for his release clause, but Oyedele decided not to join as other teams are also interested in signing him this summer.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Oyedele settled quickly at Legia Warsaw after leaving Manchester United last year. His performances have caught the attention of top clubs across Europe.

United will be watching him closely, as they have a 40% sell-on clause from his release clause. This would mean a large amount in the event of a sale.

Legia Warsaw ended the season strongly with Oyedele the star of the midfield. But they may have a fight on their hands to keep the midfielder beyond the summer.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR OYEDELE AND LEGIA?

Oyedele is expected to receive more offers from European clubs in the summer transfer window. Legia Warsaw will try to keep him for their Europa Conference League campaign, but large offers might change their plans.

Legia wants to improve from their third-place finish in Ekstraklasa, just three points behind Pogoń Szczecin. Their next match is an important league game against Raków Częstochowa, who are just two points below them in fourth.

Oyedele’s future will be a key storyline as the transfer window progresses.
