Messi reaches another huge milestone on his new stint at Inter Miami.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Despite only joining Inter Miami during the summer of 2023, Messi has had an immediate impact in Major League Soccer and he recorded his 44th goal contribution in an MLS match when he netted against Toronto FC on Sunday. This goal broke Gonzalo Higuain’s previous record of 43 goal contributions for the club, a feat Messi accomplished in 38 fewer games.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Barcelona legend has a reputation for breaking records and keeping pace with long-term rival Cristiano Ronaldo. On Sunday, Messi surpassed another milestone. His goal against Toronto was his 44th goal contribution (24 goals and 20 assists) since joining Inter Miami, making him the player with the most goal contributions in the team’s history, a remarkable achievement given the club’s formation in 2018.

AND WHAT’S MORE

Although Messi’s game time has been limited this season due to injuries, he has still managed to score six goals and register three assists in 11 MLS matches. However, his contributions currently trail those of countryman Thiago Almada from Atlanta United, who has 13 goals and nine assists in just 13 games during the 2025 season.
