Milos Kerkez Joins Liverpool From Bournemouth, Calling It ‘Biggest Club’ in England
Milos Kerkez has joined Liverpool in a landmark £40million move from Bournemouth, describing the switch as “a real honour” and declaring the European giants as the “biggest club in England”.
KERKEZ JOINS LIVERPOOL AFTER IMPRESSIVE SEASON
Liverpool have added left-back Milos Kerkez to their squad in a five-year contract after catching the attention of the top-flight champions with his stellar campaign at Bournemouth. The 21-year-old made 38 appearances in the Premier League last season, making the most appearances of any under-21s defenders in the English top tier.
Kerkez also scored two goals and provided six assists in an impressive campaign for the Hungary international, who was a regular for the Cherries. “It’s the biggest club in England, so it’s a real honour to play here,” said Kerkez.
“Anfield is the stadium I’ve wanted to play in my whole life. Yes, I did feel something special when we (Bournemouth) played here. To be a Liverpool player, it’s almost hard to put into words.”
Kerkez became Liverpool’s third major signing of the summer transfer window after Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz in a massive recruit campaign, seeing the Reds splash over £200 million.
LIVERPOOL’S AMBITION AND KERKEZ’S ROLE
Liverpool are the reigning Premier League champions and Kerkez joined the club’s aggressive plan for a major overhaul of the team. The spending spree by the club has indicated its desire for sustained domestic and European success, while ensuring its standing as an elite club.
Kerkez is anticipated to contend with Andy Robertson for the first-choice left-back role. Kerkez said: “I knew about Liverpool’s interest a few weeks ago, and it’s very hard to say no to this club. I’m very happy to be here, and I’m very positive about my future here. I’ll obviously work very hard every day, and I’m very excited.” He added: “I’m a hardworking player, obviously, and fans will see from my performances that I’ll give everything to the club and try to win as many trophies as I can here. It’s main reason I’m here, after all. Hopefully, I’ll be making a lot of fans happy.”
LOOKING AHEAD: LIVERPOOL’S TITLE DEFENSE AND BOURNEMOUTH EAGER TO START FRESH
Liverpool will soon start their title defense, with a match against Bournemouth to open the season. The Reds will be determined to keep the top position in the Premier League standings, with primary title challengers Manchester City and Arsenal lurking behind.
Bournemouth has already found Kerkez’s replacement in Adrien Truffert from Rennes and will open its campaign at Anfield. With Bournemouth finishing a respectable mid-table last season, extending the strong displays to start the new campaign would be a good start.
