Nantes Close to Signing Mayckel Lahdo from AZ Alkmaar

FC Nantes are about to sign Swedish winger Mayckel Lahdo from AZ Alkmaar. They will loan him with the option to buy, and negotiations are in the final stages.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Nantes are almost ready to agree with AZ Alkmaar to bring in Mayckel Lahdo on loan. They have the option to buy him if the move works well. The 22-year-old winger has been with AZ since 2022, after moving from Hammarby. He is valued at around €3 million and is under contract with the club until June 2027. This signing is part of Nantes’ careful transfer strategy. They have been spending modestly this summer despite earning large sums from recent player sales. They have invested just over €4 million so far.

THE SIGNIFICANCE FOR NANTES AND LAHDO

Nantes are looking to improve their attack for the upcoming campaign, having finished 13th in Ligue 1 last season and only 3 points from relegation. Lahdo played a key role for AZ last year, making over 30 appearances and contributing with goals and assists in both the Eredivisie and European competitions. Bringing in a versatile winger like Lahdo could provide much-needed creativity to the Nantes side, as they were inconsistent in 2024-25. For Lahdo, this transfer is a fresh challenge and an opportunity to prove himself in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR BOTH CLUBS?

Lahdo is expected to join Nantes before their first Ligue 1 match against PSG. Last season, PSG were the undisputed winners of the Ligue 1, and won a historical Champions League as well. A strong start is crucial for Nantes, as they aim to move up the standings and avoid last year’s relegation battle. Meanwhile, AZ Alkmaar will need to find a replacement for Lahdo before the Eredivisie season begins. They finished 4th last year and are keen to challenge for a European spot.
