Napoli Close In On Miguel Gutierrez After Agreement With Girona

Napoli and Girona have agreed verbally to transfer left-back Miguel Gutierrez for €18 million plus add-ons. The Spanish player is expected to sign a five-year contract, with Real Madrid’s buy-back clause being the last hurdle. Gutierrez is expected to join Napoli on a deal until June 2030, as confirmed by a report recently.

TRANSFER AGREEMENT REACHED

The clubs have agreed on an €18 million fee plus potential add-ons. The five-year deal reflects Napoli’s long-term confidence in the 24-year-old, who prefers joining the Italian champions over other options. Real Madrid, who sold Gutierrez to Girona with a buy-back and a 50% sell-on clause, must decide whether to activate the clause before finalizing the transfer. Reports indicate that Gutierrez is set to join Napoli for more than €18 million.

NAPOLI’S AMBITIOUS SUMMER AND GUTIERREZ’S RISE

This signing follows Napoli’s exciting 2024/25 Serie A title victory, achieved on the final day, sparking celebrations in Naples. Head coach Antonio Conte is clearly prioritizing strengthening the left side after signing Kevin De Bruyne, Scott McTominay for his 2nd season, Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, Sam Beukema, and Noa Lang. Gutierrez attracted interest from top Premier League clubs and played in 34 La Liga games last season, scoring twice and providing four assists, helping Girona secure a shaky 16ht place finish and avoiding relegation.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR NAPOLI AND THE DEAL?

Napoli await Real Madrid’s final response to the buy-back clause; however, reports suggest the clause expired in June. If the deal is completed, Gutierrez will join a squad aiming to retain the Scudetto and compete in the Champions League. Napoli start their Serie A campaign against Sassuolo, with Inter and Juventus also considered title favorites. Girona, having finished 16th in La Liga during the 2024-25 season, are preparing for another season with more players leaving, and hopefully without the relegation fears it had last season.
