Neom SC Reach Agreement to Sign Luis Maximiano from Almería

Neom SC have agreed to sign goalkeeper Luis Maximiano from Almería. They have verbally agreed on a four-year contract. This move improves Neom’s options in goal for the upcoming Saudi Pro League season.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Neom SC have reached a verbal agreement to sign Portuguese goalkeeper Luis Maximiano from Almería, a La Liga team. The 26-year-old, who joined Almería in 2023, is ready to join the Saudi club on a four-year contract, pending formalities. Maximiano was a key player for Almería last season, making 31 appearances and keeping five clean sheets. With his experience in Spain and Portugal, Maximiano is a major addition to Neom SC’s squad as they aim to strengthen their defense. However, it’s important to note that Almería is currently competing in the Spanish Segunda División after being relegated from La Liga.

WHY THIS TRANSFER MATTERS

Neom SC ended up in the middle of the standings in the Saudi Pro League last season, more than 20 points behind leaders Al Ittihad. Their main problem was a weak defense and inconsistent goalkeeping, which cost them crucial points in tight matches. By bringing in Maximiano, Neom aim to address this key issue and improve their league position. At the same time, Almería, now in the Segunda División, suffered relegation and conceded the most goals in La Liga, which has forced them into a major rebuild as they lose their first-choice goalkeeper.

WHAT COMES NEXT?

Maximiano’s transfer is expected to be finalized in the coming days. Neom SC want to register the new signing in time for their opening Pro League match against Al-Taawoun, who finished two places above Neom last year. If the paperwork is completed quickly, Maximiano could make his debut immediately, facing a team known for their attacking style. With tight competition in the middle of the table, Neom need their new goalkeeper to have an immediate impact as they aim to close the gap on the top six and join the league’s best teams.
